About us
E.I.S.T. is an Institute of systemic psychotherapy, training and clinical research, founded by Valeria Ugazio in 1999.
We carry out psychotherapies for the individual, the couple and the family. We specialize in the treatment of phobias, obsessive-compulsive and eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, obesity) as well as depression and other mood disorders.
E.I.S.T. conducts research programmes in conjunction with universities and private institutions on topics such as: relations between semantics and psychopathologies; the therapeutic process; differences in conducting therapy in relation to the patient’s psychopathology and evaluation of psychotherapeutic results.
E.I.S.T. has a school of psychotherapy recognised by the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research and is authorised to carry out four-year specialisation courses in systemic psychotherapy, in Milan and Bergamo. Apart from four year training courses E.I.S.T. also organises training for qualified psychotherapists. We also promote scientific/cultural initiatives such as workshops, meetings and book presentations all aimed principally at psychotherapists, clinical psychologists and psychiatrists.
E.I.S.T.'s therapeutic approach is inspired by the systemic psychoterapeutic tradition of Gregory Bateson and the Palo Alto Group (Haley, Weakland, Watzlawick). It is an approach characterized by attention to subjectivity which draws on some contributions from clinical cognitivism.
Through its seminars, workshops and meetings with European and American systemic colleagues, psychoanalysts and cognitivists, E.I.S.T. facilitates a culture of dialogue in the conviction that knowledge grows from the comparing of different positions.
